Great to meet you!

Thanks for your interest in the Fanta Delaney series. I hope you like reading the books as much as I enjoy writing them. It’s been such fun crafting Fanta’s world and sharing my lifelong love of horses.

Fanta came to life in 2021, after a series of career catastrophes led me to “link out.” I left the corporate world behind and took a job at the local grocery store. When I wasn’t working the cash — behind my sheet of plexiglass, wearing my mask and gloves, disinfectant at the ready! — I was sitting at home writing mystery stories. And so Fanta was born in what was probably one of the most challenging, creative, and restorative periods of my life.

The idea of Fanta was actually conceived when I was a very young child, squirming around on my bedroom floor, surrounded by pictures cut out from magazines, horse calendars, pony books … anything that caught my eye. Play to me meant living in the world of my imagination, where horses, dogs, and people got up to all sorts of adventures. I can still see, plain as day, the photo of the freckle-faced young woman with the short reddish hair that I cut from a magazine and named Fanta (yes, after the soda pop, an ad for which appeared in the same magazine).

So that’s Fanta. As for me, in 2022 I went back to the media and continue to work in daily journalism. Career crises notwithstanding, I’ve been privileged to experience a variety of exciting fields, from public policy to politics, communications to corporate strategy. I’m blessed to have two university degrees, in journalism and business administration. I live happily in the beautiful city of Ottawa, Canada with two rescue dogs and, of course, am always looking for ways to get back in the saddle.
